Maureen's Goals & Priorities
Read Maureen's
ballot
statement here.
Priorities:
- Exercising fiscal responsibility by supporting
balanced budgets
- Making public safety the first priority
- Supporting comprehensive, long range land use planning
- Strengthening City/County relations
- Protecting our valuable agricultural land
- Working to make the County Development Services
department efficient and fair
- Addressing water drainage and flood control issues in
a regional manner
- Putting the water needs of the citizens of Butte
County first
As District Three Board Supervisor, my primary goals will
be to emphasize fiscal responsibility and long range
planning and to improve City/County relations. Fiscal
responsibility starts with making public safety the first
order of priority within the county budget.
The next most important step for the County is the
formulation of the General Plan. This will serve as the
guiding principles for land use, traffic circulation, and
agriculture and water policy. I will work with citizens to
make sure that the General Plan respects resources and
existing neighborhoods. In fact, I have a track record of
listening to citizens and protecting neighborhoods.
My
style of communication is to be honest, fair, respectful,
and open minded. I will work in a constructive and
productive manner with County staff and the other
Supervisors. The most recent Grand Jury report highlights
some significant problems related to interactions between
County staff and elected individuals. I will work to get
professional staff and make sure they have the tools to do
their job. I will always remember that productive
agriculture and quality water are integral parts of what
makes Butte County so desirable. The first priority for our
water must be the needs of the citizens of Butte County.
I have an extensive record of public service involvement
and experience. I have been a member of the Chico City
Council since 1998, including serving as Mayor and currently
Vice Mayor. I have served on LAFCO and I am the Chico member
of the County Water Advisory Committee. I have worked with
county staff and supervisors on the successful automatic aid
agreement between city and county fire departments. I have
also worked on the state mandated Nitrate Compliance Program
and spearheaded an agreement by which citizens are not
mandated to annex when they fulfill the State requirement to
hook up to sewer lines.
